Quinn has been sleeping poorly at night for the past couple weeks. She sometimes wakes up around 12:30 and again around 3:30. Does this mean our quiet nights are over??? I sure hope not! At first I thought she was sick, then thought it could be hunger, growth spurt, or teeth. We started cereal last Sunday, July 12th. We were supposed to wait until 6 months but I don't think she's going to die. I had cereal in my bottle at 3 months. The box said for the first feeding to mix with a certain amount of milk and its consistency was almost pure liquid. She loved it but got agitated after a while because we weren't feeding her quickly enough. I should have fed her first then gave the cereal. Lesson learned. Since then we have changed the consistency so it is less runny and it is so funny to watch her chew. Unfortunately, the cereal has not helped her stay asleep at night. So teeth it must be. She is drooling like crazy and chomping on everything, but we don't see anything yet. I thought her bottom gums looked a little red but who knows. I was told that Tylenol or Motrin might work to help her through the night, so we might try that soon.
Fortunately, she has been a great little napper again. She goes down without any crying or fuss. We turn on her favorite Rockabye Baby Beatles tunes and she falls fast asleep. I don't know if I mentioned this in another post, but at around 4 months we started having her sleep on her stomach. We decided to do this because of her stomach issues and because she was busting out of her swaddle and then getting startled. She startled herself to the point that her arms were flailing uncontrollably. She'd calm and almost fall asleep and then the startle would return. We took her bumpers out of her crib around that time too. Now we find her rammed up to the corner of her crib in the morning and I am just waiting to see a huge bruise on her forehead. Aside from the lacking sleep, we are loving this stage. She is grabbing for everything and trying so hard to communicate. Her sitting skills are getting better every day and we are still working on rolling from back to belly. She gets to her side and then gives up. I keep trying to capture the first on film, so the video camera is always close by. I'm still working on figuring out how to save our videos on the computer. If we ever figure this out I will post the one of her eating for the first time.
